Caregivers play a vital role in supporting children and families in the communities NIȽ TU,O serves. NIȽ TU,O recognizes the significant emotional, physical, and financial demands of Caregiving, and we are committed to walking alongside our Caregivers every step of the way.
A collaborative approach:
Caring for the Caregivers starts with thoughtful placements. We take great care in matching children with the right Caregiver. Our placement process is collaborative and considers:
- The Caregiver’s relationship to the children
- The needs of the Caregiver’s biological children
- The ages and genders of all children in the home
- What additional supports the family may need to thrive
We make sure that each placement feels right for both the Caregiver and the child.
Ongoing support & training:
Our support doesn’t stop after a child is placed. Our ₭EŚENTELs (Social Workers) are always there to support both the Caregivers and the children in care. There are almost always at least two ₭EŚENTELs involved with each Caregiver because NIȽ TU,O is committed to ensuring Caregivers and ₭EŚENTELs can work as a team.
In addition, we provide regular Caregiver dinners which offer childcare, an engaging speaker, and a delicious meal! We recognize that caregiving can be resource-intensive. This is why we offer Relief care, which allows Caregivers to take restorative breaks.
Our Caregivers consistently tell us they feel supported, heard, and valued. They appreciate our child-centred, culturally grounded approach. This is thanks to the Resource ₭EŚENTEL team, which provides training through a culturally safe lens.
Our Caregivers speak very highly of our organization and the work our team has been doing in the communities. The Resource ₭EŚENTEL team work̓s with and supports our Caregivers with a cultural perspective and provide training in a Cultural Safe lens that k̓eeps our children in care connected to their communities, families and culture.
NIȽ TU,O is very grateful for the deep commitment our Caregivers make. Every October, we celebrate Caregiver Appreciation month – but our gratitude lasts year-round.
